CS50 Visit

I enjoyed the visit to Harvard very much. CS50 was very fun and interesting to see all the projects that they had there. I visited a couple of stands and one project I liked was the one with the food restaurants and the hours, it showed what was open and what wasn't and times of closing and everything. Going on Google to check times for restaurants isn't always correct and if you use that to go and eat and find out it's not open it can be time wasting so I thought that one was pretty cool. Another one I liked was the stock market game someone made where you can buy and sell stocks virtually and the app was designed well. Overall I enjoyed it a lot and would definitely come back again next year.

Cables & Egypt

I think the cables are very important because if you think about it we need these cables to communicate and transfer information between each other. Countries like Russia and more can easily mess with the cables and disrupt everything. If we don't take this seriously enough they can disrupt our systems and it cost a lot of money to pull these up and repair them. So it's in our best interest to keep them secure. We should at least some protection to the cables so it would be harder to mess with. I do think we are naive for thinking there's no risk because it can happen anytime. We don't know even if that happens. Satellite can't cover everything for us.

The situation with the Egypt government blocking the internet I don't think it's ever right to block the internet and not allow people on it unless the sites are harmful other than that nothing should be blocked. I think anonymous did good with helping the people of Egypt with the dial up connection so they could access the internet. In the moment twitter is very useful in these situations because these people are giving live updates on what's happening, where, and how. The Twitter is always up to date because there are new updates every second from different people. It could be videos, or just words. I also think the Facebook live feature is great because it can give you a live aspect of what's happening and many people can share and see the video. There are other ways as well of course but I think these two are really helpful and useful in these situations.

Innovations

The innovation I chose is social networking, something that has changed the way the world communicates with each other. Social network users is to reach almost 3 billion users by the year 2020. The industry is worth billions. Pros to social networking are communicating without being face to face, and anywhere in the world. Make new friends, get famous, education use and even make money. Cons are people can post bad pictures and statements about you, bullying can occur, and you can get hacked. Social networking has made a major impact in the way we communicate today.

The innovation my dad chose was a GPS, he said trying to go to new places without one is just too difficult. This innovation has changed the way people drive and travel. Before GPS's people had to find ways through maps and directions which was time consuming and very easy to get lost. But GPS fixed this problem. Pros are you never get lost, navigation is easy, and features which let you choose to avoid tolls and dirt roads. There are really no cons to GPS but you could argue signal loss, and reliability but they usually last pretty long.

The two innovations are different things they don't really have anything in common but there are apps out there that combine the two of these things like Waze. Which is a community based traffic and navigation app that gets users to tell where police and other obstacles are while combining the GPS feature. These two innovations are major and are a big part in people's lives.

IP Addresses & DNS

Question 1: What is a protocol?

A protocol is rules that machines will use in order to communicate with each other. Send and receive messages.

Question 2: What is an IP Address and how is it organized?

An IP address is like any other address but its one for your device instead of home or business. The IP address uses the numbers to communicate with other devices over the internet. An IP Address is organized in 32 bits. First will be the country or network and then sub network and then the devices.

Question 3: What is the difference between IPV4 & IPV6

The difference between IPV4 & IPV6 is that IPV4 protocol uses 32 bits for addresses which can make 4 billion different addresses but that is not enough because technology has changed the world and we need more than 4 billion so IPV6 uses 128 bits which can make 340 undecillion addresses.

Question 4: What is the difference between an IP packet and IP address?

Information is split into packets which can transfers data and and knows where it is to be sent.

Question 5: Explain DNS

DNS stands for domain name system which are separate domains so not everyone is crowding one domain there are different ones like .com/.org/and the other ones.

Question 6: My IPV4 address is 10.1.96.209.

Alarm Clock

Alarm clocks are a common everyone may have in their house, this too is a computer it contains a face with numbers and hands on the clock that read you the time, they come in all different sizes, shapes, and colors. The input you give the alarm clock is the time you set on it to wake you up for whatever you have to do like school or work. It takes the data which is the time you set to wake up and then it processes that into an alarm that will ring on that set time. The result is a loud annoying noise that will go on forever to wake you up until you shut it off. That is just one of many examples of computers that are in your household and you might not think they are computers but are.
